Appleton Foundation Launches to Bring “A Brighter Future” to Liberia

MONROVIA – A non-profit organization, the Appleton Foundation, is bringing fresh hope to communities across Liberia. Founded in 2021 by Edward Wade Appleton, Jr., the foundation was officially certified to operate by the Liberia Business Registry on January 13, 2025. Its goal is to transform the lives of the country’s most vulnerable people.

Operating under the inspiring motto, “A Brighter Future,” the foundation is dedicated to helping disadvantaged, underserved, and marginalized Liberians. This includes the poor and people living with disabilities. The organization’s colors—red, white, and blue—symbolize its commitment to building a more resilient and opportunity-filled nation for everyone.

The mission of the Appleton Foundation is to empower these groups by giving them practical skills and support. The foundation’s vision is to help create a society where every Liberian can reach their full potential, no matter their background.

To achieve this, the foundation has planned several key initiatives. It will focus on equipping young Liberians with essential life skills to help them become self-sufficient. It also plans to promote education by providing access to scholarship funds for students in both high school and university.

Beyond education, the foundation aims to build stronger communities. It will promote peace and unity through sports programs and hold workshops to prevent substance abuse, something that is currently being fought by the Joseph Boakai regime. To improve daily life, the organization will help build essential infrastructure like public latrines, water pumps, and shelters for local markets.

The Appleton Foundation also plans to boost local economies by providing small grants to market women and petty traders. This support will help small business owners grow and succeed. Through these combined efforts, the Appleton Foundation stands as a new beacon of hope, ready to make a lasting difference across Liberia.

Mr. Edward Wade Appleton Jr. participated in the last presidential elections in 2023 and made a big impression in the first round. He later pledged his support to incumbent President Joseph Boakai during the runoff polls.

Meanwhile, the Appleton Foundation is encouraging all students to take advantage of Japanese scholarships as a way of self-advancement. Speaking recently, Mr. Appleton noted that many Liberian students do not push for further studies but are rather complacent with a single bachelor’s level degree. He has shared a list of several scholarship opportunities and is encouraging as many Liberian students to take advantage and apply. He made specific reference to students in Maryland County and at Tubman University.
