The National Patriotic Party (NPP) hereby distances itself from statements made by Madam Jewel H. Taylor at the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) headquarters in Congo Town.
Madam Taylor’s comments, made during the CDC groundbreaking ceremony, claimed that the NPP shares political ties and a long-standing coalition spirit with the CDC, and that the NPP remains an integral part of the CDC’s building process.
The NPP asserts that her statement does not represent the official position of the party and should be considered her personal statement.
Furthermore, the NPP Constitution’s provisions 5.1 and 5.6 clearly state the functions and responsibilities of the Chairman as the official spokesperson of the party, and the Secretary General (SG) who runs the day-to-day activities of the party.
The NPP wishes to make it clear to the public that the party has officially withdrawn its membership from the Congress for Democratic Change Coalition and has no further intention to return, taking into consideration the level of humiliation meted against its partisans.
The NPP cautions Madam Taylor to cease misleading the public into believing that the NPP will support a group of individuals who prioritize self-interest over the national interest.
Meanwhile, the NPP is expected to hold an extraordinary meeting to deliberate on and decide an action to be taken against Madam Jewel H. Taylor.
The NPP calls on all its members to remain kind and keep their commitment to the party as the leadership is strategizing to regain its status in the body politic of Liberia.
Signed: Bleyah Bobby Addison Acting Director of Press National Patriotic Party (NPP)
