On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC) hosted a technical briefing at One UN House in Monrovia. The session, held for the UNDP Liberia Electoral Support Project (LESP) and its development partners, provided a comprehensive update on the country’s electoral boundary delimitation review process.

Technical Insights and Collaboration

The briefing was led by the NEC Geo-Information Section (GIS) in partnership with Boundary Delimitation Expert, Mr. Archie Delaney. The presentation focused on three core areas:

  • Current Status: An overview of the progress made in mapping electoral districts.
  • Technical Requirements: The essential infrastructure and data needed for precision.
  • Key Challenges: Obstacles currently facing the delimitation timeline.

The gathering served as an informal forum, allowing UN agencies and international partners to engage directly with technical experts and discuss the strategic advocacy required to advance the process.

Data Integration with LISGIS

A central pillar of this initiative is the partnership between the NEC and the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS). Following a Memorandum of Understanding signed in September 2024, technical teams from both institutions have been working to convert 2022 census data into specialized electoral datasets. This collaborative effort ensures that boundary adjustments are based on accurate, quality-controlled population figures.
