Monrovia, Liberia – Prophet Key, born Justin Oldpa Yeazehn, appeared before the Full Bench of Liberia’s Supreme Court Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in a pivotal “show-cause” hearing. The controversial social media commentator stands accused of “continuous and sustained invectives” targeting Chief Justice, his honor Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay and the Supreme Court itself, allegedly bringing the judiciary into public disrepute.
Key’s legal battle escalated after a citation issued on February 4, 2026. His initial appearance on February 10 saw proceedings temporarily halted due to his lack of legal counsel. The Court swiftly appointed Public Defenders Cllr. Bestman Juah and Joseph Debleh to represent him, and Key was released on a human surety bond, pledging his return.
Ahead of Tuesday’s hearing, Prophet Key publicly acknowledged using “unruly” language, even admitting to personal insults against the Chief Justice’s family. However, the Chief Justice has emphasized that this is a due process hearing, offering Key a chance to legally explain his actions. The outcome remains uncertain, with potential penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment if he is found in contempt. All eyes are on the Temple of Justice as Liberia awaits the resolution of this high-profile case.
Meanwhile, the debate continues on social media, where, in fact, it all originated. Many Liberians are now sharing the opinion that the SC is misusing “powers” and waiting limited resources on trivial matters. Some argue that if the Chief Justice had and issue with “the Prophet,” he should have simply filled a civil lawsuit – rather drag the entire court into the quagmire.
On the other hand, some hold to the fact that Prophet Key has been proceeding in such manner for close to a decade now and that he gets to face the weight of the Law.
But the interpretation of the law is not readily available to many Liberians and many people do not even have the slightest understanding of what’s going on, nor would they ever get an opportunity to fully understand how the Law works.
