MONROVIA – Charles Philip Taylor Jr., the son of former Liberian President Charles G. Taylor and former Senator/former Vice President, Jewel Howard-Taylor, has died.
The news of his passing has sent shockwaves through the political community in Monrovia and Liberia at large, marking a somber moment for one of Liberia’s most prominent families.
According to medical sources, Taylor suffered a sudden respiratory arrest while at the GIMS Hospital in the Sophie Community. As his condition deteriorated and he fell into a coma, he was urgently referred to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Sinkor for advanced emergency care. Despite the efforts of the medical team, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Philip Taylor was known for his recent academic achievements and his professional interest in Liberia’s maritime sector. In July 2023, he earned a Master’s of Science degree in Shipping and Port Administration from the Regional Maritime University in Accra, Ghana.
While he maintained a relatively lower profile than his parents, his recent graduation was seen by many as a step toward a significant career in public or corporate service.
His father, Charles Taylor, served as Liberia’s 22nd President and is currently serving a sentence in the UK following a conviction by the Special Court for Sierra Leone, something seen as another neocolonialist western grade intrusion of subjectivity by “white people against Africans.”

His mother, Jewel Howard-Taylor, is a highly influential political figure who served as the Vice President of Liberia from 2018 to 2024 and also formerly serves as a Senior Senator for Bong County during the Ellen Johnson regime.
