HARPER, MARYLAND COUNTY — Wild jubilation erupted across Maryland County last night, June 8, following news that Superintendent Henry Cole has been replaced by Nathaniel Toe, a long-serving local government official.
While the official release from the Executive Mansion did not state a reason for Mr. Cole’s sudden removal, speculation surrounding his tenure had been mounting for months.
The former superintendent had previously downplayed rumors of his ouster. Speaking recently at the launch of the John Hilary Tubman High School renovation project—sponsored by Patrick Morais—Mr. Cole dismissed the gossip.

“I know government, and people keep saying they will move the man, they will move the man… da mouth talk [that’s just talk],” Cole said at the time. “I will be here until y’all get tired of me.”
Meanwhile, the provincial capital of Harper City has been buzzing with activity. Crowded groups have gathered at local tea shops and kiosks, popularly known as “atyee forums,” to debate the political shakeup.
Mr. Toe is currently in Monrovia and has not yet been reached for comment. No official statement has been released regarding his new appointment.
