HARPER, Maryland County — Maryland County’s newly inducted Superintendent, Nathaniel Toe Jr., has officially hit the ground running. Just two days after taking his oath of office at an elaborate and well-attended ceremony, Superintendent Toe led a high-profile delegation of county authorities on an intensive, countywide assessment tour of key development projects across the county’s political districts.
The rapid deployment of local government resources has solidified Superintendent Toe’s standing among his constituents. Local political analysts and residents alike have hailed Toe’s ascension to office as the most popular appointment made by any Liberian president for Maryland County since the end of the civil war.
Accelerating Infrastructure and Governance
The tour, which coincided with the second day of a working visit by the Ministry of Local Government, aimed to accelerate infrastructure development and strengthen local governance.
The delegation’s itinerary covered several vital municipal projects funded under the Government of Liberia’s County Development Fund (CDF):
- Sedeken & Pleebo: County officials conducted comprehensive assessments of the Sedeken Commissioner’s Compound and the Pleebo Administrative Building, both of which are slated for immediate, major renovations.
- Pleebo City Hall: The team inspected ongoing construction at the Pleebo City Hall, where engineers confirmed that the facility is nearing completion.
- Kahloken: In Kahloken, Superintendent Toe officially broke ground for the construction of the new Kahloken City Hall. Contractors have already mobilized resources and commenced civil works on-site.
- Barrobo Glofaken: The tour concluded in Barrobo Glofaken, where the delegation evaluated progress on the local City Hall to ensure its swift completion.
“These projects are vital to bringing services closer to our people,” Superintendent Toe noted during the tour. “We are committed to transparency, speed, and quality as we utilize our County Development Fund to transform Maryland County.”
Earlier, during the induction ceremony, Mr. Toe reiterated the completion of at least two key projects, with specific timelines – November, 2026. These projects are the Kahloken City Hall and the construction of more buildings at the main campus of the Maryland County TVET in Pleebo.
Bicentennial Preparations Underway
Beyond driving infrastructural development, Superintendent Toe is turning his attention to the historical and cultural legacy of the region.
In a significant administrative move, the Superintendent has officially appointed Rocheford T. Gardiner as the Committee Chair for the upcoming bicentennial celebration of the founding of Maryland in Africa.
This historic commemoration is set to officially kick off with a grand Peace and Reconciliation Conference on February 22, 2027. The conference aims to unite citizens at home and in the diaspora, setting a collaborative agenda for the county’s next century of progress.
