Peace for Health: Liberia Joins Global Community to Mark Public Health Week

MONROVIA – The Ministry of Health (MOH) officially commenced its participation in Global Public Health Week (GPHW) on Monday, joining a worldwide movement to champion health equity and robust medical infrastructure.

Organized annually by the World Federation of Public Health Associations, the event runs from April 6–10, 2026. This year’s observance focuses on a timely and critical intersection of stability and wellness under the theme: “Peace for Health, Health for Peace.”

A Call for Global Solidarity

The GPHW serves as a mobilization point for health actors, institutions, and local communities. By positioning public health as a “global public good,” the initiative seeks to:

  • Advance Equity: Reducing the gap in healthcare access between different socio-economic groups.
  • Strengthen Systems: Building resilient frameworks capable of handling emerging health threats.
  • Foster Peace: Highlighting how regional stability is a prerequisite for effective healthcare delivery.

Commitment to Resilience

In a statement released from Monrovia, the Ministry of Health reaffirmed its dedication to transforming the national healthcare landscape. The Ministry emphasized that its strategy remains rooted in building inclusive and sustainable systems that leave no citizen behind.

“This week serves as a powerful platform to galvanize coordinated efforts in addressing our most pressing challenges,” the Ministry stated, noting that the goal is to ensure equitable access to quality care for every Liberian.

As the week progresses, the MOH is expected to engage with various stakeholders to further the “Health for Peace” agenda, reinforcing the idea that a healthy population is the strongest foundation for a peaceful nation.
