MARYLAND COUNTY – Wednesday, May 27, marked a vibrant and historic milestone for local education as a colorful groundbreaking ceremony officially kicked off the holistic renovation of the John Hilary Tubman High School.
The project is the fulfillment of a commitment made a few months ago by Patrick Morais, a young businessman, Marylander, and proud alumnus of the institution.

A Decade of Ruin
For more than ten years, the school has lain in ruins, rendering it largely unusable for full academic activities. From its torn-off roofs and dilapidated bathrooms to its gutted auditorium and offices, the campus closely resembled a building bombarded in a active war zone.
Community and Government Rally Behind the Project
The ceremony attracted a diverse cross-section of local stakeholders, including:
Henry Cole, Maryland County Superintendent
Larry Nimley, County Education Officer (CEO)
Boniface Nyemah, National Human Rights Boss and Civil Society Representative
God-blessed Collins, Representative for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)
Traditional and community leaders, cross-border women traders, the Fulani community, and ecstatic students.
During the event, CEO Larry Nimley commended Mr. Morais for strictly following proper administrative channels. Nimley noted that this compliance earned the project the blessing of education authorities in Monrovia, who subsequently instructed local officials to cooperate fully.
“My bosses are fully aware of our participation in this process,” Nimley told the audience. “However, we will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mr. Morais to formalize certain terms and conditions.”

Other speakers, including Boniface Nyemah and God-blessed Collins, took the stage to shower Patrick Morais with praises for his patriotism and generosity.
Respecting the Channels of Development
SUP Henry Cole
Speaking toward the end of the program, Superintendent Henry Cole emphasized his administration’s unwavering support for development, provided that proper protocols are respected.
“Today, I want to use this occasion to state that if you come to help, our arms are wide open,” Superintendent Cole asserted. “I will never stall development in this county. If anyone claims otherwise, it would only be out of jealousy. Today, the government is pleased to grant Mr. Morais the franchise to help our citizens.”
Looking Ahead

Following the indoor program, attendees gathered in the front yard of the school for the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony. Amidst the noisy, jubilant atmosphere, several students expressed their profound gratitude and happiness for Morais’ goodwill.
The comprehensive renovation project is estimated to cost $150,000 USD. Work is set to begin in earnest, with Mr. Morais expressing optimism that the project will be fully completed in under a year.
